Type Locality and Naming

Northwest Guangxi. The Sipu Gr was named by Zhang Taigui and Liang Jue in 1973. The type locality is Sipu, Luocheng County, northwestern Guangxi Zhuangzhu Zizhiqu (Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region).

Synonym: (四堡群), Sibao Gr. In Hunan and Guizhou provinces, the Lengjiaxi Gr or Fangjingshan Gr are thought to be synonyms ("coeval?") of the Sipu (Sibao) Group.


Lithology and Thickness

The Sipu Gr is composed of low-grade metamorphosed arenaceous- argillaceous rocks sandwiched with volcaniclastic rocks, metamorphosed tholeiite, spilite and keratophyre. It is subdivided in ascending order into the Jiuxiao Fm, Wentong Fm and Yuxi Fm. (See those entries for details.) The Sipu Gr is over 5700 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Bottom is not seen.

Upper contact

The top is disconformably or unconformably overlain by the Baizhu Fm of the Danzhou Gr.

Regional extent

It is widely distributed in the juncture between Hunan, Guangxi and Guizhou provinces. It is exposed at Jiuwan Mountains and on both slopes of Yuanbao Mountain, northwestern Guangxi.

Age 

SHRIMP U-Pb dates of 834±4 Ma, 842±13 Ma are found in the Group (Gao Linzhi et al., 2013). Early Qingbaikouan (early Tonian) on schematic stratigraphic section.
